Meet the People Behind the Furniture
We take pride in contributing to the preservation of Danish craftsmanship and local production, and in this first chapter of a two-part series where we open the doors to one of our furniture workshops. Here, in the city of Vejen, Denmark, we meet some of the skilled craftspeople who contribute to bringing the unique collection of Finn Juhl designs to life. As we take a look behind the scenes, we speak with the craftspeople about their work and lives, both within and beyond the workshop walls.
The Launch of the Hulsø Shelf
When we make our first appearance at the Maison & Objet fair in Paris this January, we will introduce an elegant addition to our collection: The Hulsø Shelf, originally designed by Finn Juhl in 1949. The shelf's organically shaped design challenges the conventional notion of a shelf as merely a backdrop for displayed objects. Instead, the Hulsø Shelf stands as an artistic element in its own right, adding aesthetic value to any room beyond its function.
Revolutionizing Space: The Hulsø Shelf and New Fabric Collections at Maison & Objet, Paris
At the prestigious Maison & Objet fair in Paris, we proudly unveiled the Hulsø Shelf, a masterpiece originally designed by Finn Juhl in 1949. This shelf transcends traditional design, challenging the conventional notion of shelves as mere backdrops for objects. Its organically shaped design transforms the Hulsø Shelf into a striking artistic element, enhancing the aesthetic value of any room beyond simple functionality.

Finn Juhl designed furniture with the human body in mind. This characteristic made him stand out from his midcentury peers in Denmark and Scandinavia alike. Rather than limiting himself to thinking in terms of practical construction, Finn Juhl adopted the mindset of a sculptor when shaping furniture.

Production and Craftsmanship
We want to continue to shed light upon the great amount of work that goes into producing each and every piece of Finn Juhl's sculptural furniture. It is crucial that the details must be as fine and pure as if it came from the old cabinetmakers’ workshop, but our understanding of quality also includes durability. The furniture has to be so durable that the pieces can be enjoyed by people today and by generations to come. With respect for the tradition and the demand for longevity, we put only the best materials in the hands of the most dedicated and skilled craftspeople.
