Finn Juhl’s furniture in elegant surroundings
Our flagship showroom is located in the historic Wilhelm Hansen House, which has been the center of music publishing and trade in Copenhagen since 1879. In these beautiful, high-ceilinged rooms, the Wilhelm Hansen family ran a sheet music printing press, music shop, and publishing house for five generations. The publishing house was Scandinavia's largest and a cornerstone of Danish musical heritage. It represented many great artists, ranging from H.C. Andersen, H.C. Lumbye, and Carl Nielsen to modern composers such as Per Nørgaard, Herman D. Koppel, and Niels Viggo Bentzon.
The Connection to Finn Juhl
From 1960 and until his death in 1989, Finn Juhl shared his life with Hanne Wilhelm Hansen, who, along with her sister Lone, represented the fifth generation of Wilhelm Hansen’s Music Publishing House. In 1988, the sisters decided to sell the publishing house, and they subsequently established the Wilhelm Hansen Foundation to support the performing arts within music, dance, and theater. As Hanne Wilhelm Hansen put it so elegantly herself: "For five generations, my family has profited from artists, so now it’s time to give that money back to the artists."
In 1998, Hanne Wilhelm Hansen reached out to the founders of Onecollection (now also known as House of Finn Juhl), Ivan Hansen and Hans Henrik Sørensen, with a request to produce a sofa for an exhibition. Hanne found the collaboration so rewarding that, a few years later, she entrusted the entire legacy of Finn Juhl’s furniture design to Ivan and Hans Henrik. Without hesitation, they accepted, taking on what would become a lifelong mission.
The collaboration also led to House of Finn Juhl opening a showroom in Wilhelm Hansen’s impressive premises in 2020. Our ambition is for the Wilhelm Hansen House to be a vibrant and creative space that inspires a life centered around enduring and sustainable values. As co-founder of House of Finn Juhl, Hans Henrik Sørensen, states:
"The circle is complete. It has become just as Hanne wished – and then some. I don’t think she could have ever imagined the level of success we have achieved by relaunching Finn Juhl’s pieces. His furniture had almost been forgotten when we were granted the production rights. We are both proud and delighted to carry forward Hanne’s vision and to significantly support the performing arts through the royalties from the sale of Finn Juhl’s furniture. And, in all humility, we believe we are enriching our capital with a beautifully restored showroom in a historic setting."
