On View until Autumn: The Quiet Power of Patina, an Exhibition that Challenges Convention
In an industry constantly chasing the next new thing, we take a different approach. During this year’s 3daysofdesign, we presented The Quiet Power of Patina – an exhibition dedicated to the durability, character, and beauty found in well-crafted, aged furniture. The exhibition will remain on view in our Copenhagen showroom until autumn.
It features a curated selection of iconic Finn Juhl designs, all produced in-house over the past 25 years. The furniture has been kindly lent by private owners as well as selected restaurants and hotels, where visible signs of wear bear witness to its ability to withstand years of daily use.
The exhibition aims to show that furniture can endure when it’s made with intention, care, and high-quality materials. With skilled craftsmanship, it’s possible to create pieces that age gracefully, retain their value across generations, and become more personal and beautiful over time.
At the heart of the exhibition, an organically shaped podium offers a 360-degree view of each piece. Highlights include timeless icons such as the Chieftain Chair, the 45 Chair, the Pelican Chair, and the Poet Sofa – all shown in patinated leather, textiles, and sheepskin, each telling its own story of longevity and use.
The Quiet Power of Patina is not only a celebration of timeless design and craftsmanship — it also reflects the values at the core of House of Finn Juhl’s B Corp certification. By showcasing how furniture can age beautifully and remain relevant over time, the exhibition underscores our commitment to responsible production, lasting quality, and a more sustainable approach to design.
As a certified B Corp, House of Finn Juhl takes a long-term perspective on furniture production. Once a Finn Juhl model is relaunched, it stays in the collection indefinitely. Each piece is made to order, avoiding overproduction and the pressure of seasonal collections. In this way, the collection evolves slowly – and only when it feels meaningful.
Ultimately, The Quiet Power of Patina is a tribute to what matters and what lasts — and a gentle reminder that new isn’t always better.
