Exclusive Elegance

A Testament to Beauty

The Butterfly Table is a very typical Finn Juhl creation and stands as a testament to detailed beauty and craftsmanship. Designed in 1949, it reflects his ambition to unite practical function with artistic beauty. On the original watercolor drawing, he noted: "Tabletop shape and leg placement allow easy access to the sofa. 'Free' form, as no function imposes binding constraints."

Master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder crafted the table in teak, Oregon pine, and matte-polished brass for the Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition, but aside from that single piece, very few were ever made – the design was both highly unconventional for its time and quite expensive to produce.

To open the table, the hanging section is lifted and the tabletop slides into a central position, evenly supported by all three legs. Despite its delicate appearance, the Butterfly Table is both functional and refined, crafted in walnut with a circular brass inlay.
