Maria Torp (b. 1975) is a Danish artist based in Copenhagen. She graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2007, after studying at the London College of Printing. Torp’s practice spans painting, drawing, and occasional sculptural pieces, often using cardboard as a key material to explore the interaction between her chosen mediums.

Rooted in hyperrealism, Torp’s work masterfully combines precision and sensitivity. Using a variety of drawing and painting techniques, she brings her subjects to life with intensity, capturing both their essence and the spaces they inhabit. Her work deeply engages with themes of societal, equality, the interplay between the everyday and the global, and the nuanced layers of human experience.

Torp’s art has been exhibited widely in Denmark and internationally. Her recent exhibition, Shaping a Pattern, at the Trapholt Museum received acclaim from both the art community and the public. Her works are held in prestigious collections, including the Trapholt Museum of Modern Art and Design, Vestjylland’s Art Museum, and the Mark Rothko Art Centre.
