Restaurant formel B
Formel B is anything but basic. The Michelin star awarded restaurant has been paving the way as one of the pillars on the Danish gastronomic scene for nearly two decades. Located on a street linking the two Copenhagen neighborhoods Vesterbro and Frederiksberg, the restaurant is furnished with classic, sculptural pieces designed by Finn Juhl.
Formel B offers an experience out of the ordinary in warm and welcoming surroundings, characterised by travertine, dark wood and sandy colours, creating the perfect setting for a unique dining experience. The dining tables are accompanied by some of Finn Juhl’s most exclusive and iconic designs: the Egyptian Chair from 1949 and the 46 Chair from 1946, both crafted in oak with black leather upholstery. Originally produced by master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, the chairs are outstanding examples of Finn Juhl's distinctive design language.
The chairs chosen for the restaurant are some of Finn Juhl’s most organic and therefore also the most complex to produce. The upholstery is done by hand, requiring years of experience, expertise, and not least, great patience. Due to their soft shapes, Finn Juhl's designs present particular challenges, making it essential for upholsterers to have a deep understanding of the strengths and limitations of each material.
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in furnishing restaurants with extravagant pieces from the Danish design scene. Formel B exemplifies this trend, being the first restaurant to feature an exclusive design like the Egyptian Chair.
The Egyptian Chair is a connoisseur's piece – created in the same year and for the same exhibition as the iconic Chieftain Chair, it shares refined details, such as the small horn finishing the backrest on both sides. Even without being a furniture enthusiast, most people who encounter the chair up close can sense the incredible precision and time-intensive craftsmanship involved in its creation.
Each piece from House of Finn Juhl is made to order, allowing customers to define the chair's expression through their choice of materials. At formel B, you don’t just eat well – you sit well, too.
