Despite the high culinary standards, the atmosphere inside is relaxed and homely. The interior is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of the classic Copenhagen apartment – warm, personal and with a distinct appreciation for Danish design.
Among the chairs is Finn Juhl’s sculptural Reading Chair, whose distinctive backrest invites guests to lean back, chat across the tables and linger after dinner. Finn Juhl designed the chair in 1953, and it has remained a favorite in Copenhagen restaurants ever since – not least because it is surprisingly comfortable, easy to move around and timeless in its expression.
From the tables, guests have a clear view of the open kitchen, where talented chefs with experience from restaurants including Kong Hans Kælder and Formel B create dishes inspired by French and Italian cuisine. Calma has also been awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its sophisticated food at accessible prices.
Ultimately, it is the interplay between the food, furniture and atmosphere that defines the experience: an informal setting with classic Danish furniture design, where guests can come for dinner and stay for the conversation.
