The Apartment Installation I’ll be Your Mirror
Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer and Elisa Ossino, creative directors, and founders of H+O, showcased the apartment installation, I’ll be Your Mirror, during Milan Design Week in April, 2021. The creative directors invited a selection of international design houses and brands, who exhibited a medley of their finest works of furniture, light, ceramics, and art during I’ll be Your Mirror.
Long-term collaborators Elisa Ossino and Josephine Akvama Hoffmeyer first met in 2002 when Ossino, a Milan-based interior designer, approached Hoffmeyer. Hoffmeyer is specialized in handmade clay tiles and paint at File Under Pop in Copenhagen, during the renovation of her Sicilian home. “We admired each other’s’ work,” says Ossino. A decade later, the two collaborators set up a design studio, H+O, in a spacious 18th-century apartment in Milan’s elegant Brera district. The creative duo who also are running independent creative businesses, transformed the apartment during Salone del Mobile Milan 2021 into the installation I’ll be Your Mirror, which were inspired by a song by The Velvet Underground. While the balance of material, colours and texture lay at the very surface of interior, the installation urged the spectators to contemplate on their own significance and appearance within space and time.
The exhibition offered visitors the opportunity for self-reflection through a burst of colourful interiors, meticulous tile design and a selection of furniture. Elevating the concept of an experimental apartment experience, I’ll be Your Mirror, aimed to initiate a process of reflection within the minds and bodies of all visitors. The interior is designed by Elisa Ossino Studio installing a curated selection of objects and custom furniture dedicated to the mirror. Italian artist Roberta Savelli created a site-specific, analog art installation to enhance the suspenseful atmosphere of the space.
